For those of you who read this blog , but are not familiar with the school or Sandbach itself I thought I'd update a little. Sandbach Community Primary is still open and now has a Children's Centre attached to it. Building work for the Children's Centre started in the summer of 2010, more information about the centre can be found here.

At the meeting on Monday the 13th of October the proposal to keep SCPS open, but with reduced numbers, was said to stand as a formal proposal . This does mean there is no proposal for the school to close but does not necessarily mean that SCPS will get the Children's Centre. Two representatives from SAVE OUR SCHOOL were at that meeting. There is now to be a formal consultation.

Church Lawton school is still not out of the firing line but communication between SAVE OUR SCHOOL and Church Lawton has been strengthened. Some statistics came to light that could help Church Lawton's fight.

This mornings meeting was well attended by parents. Lindsay Mcdade informed the group that the Chronicle are going to be at the school this evening at 3pm. Everyone was invited to come along to have their picture taken.

People were asked how they all felt about the revised proposal; everyone was very pleased, but was told that parents from Offley School are not happy with the possibility of the 14-19 resource centre. It is anticipated that the school community will be contacting Cheshire County Council to show their feelings about this so; our school community need to write letters of support for the revised one. It was agreed that a template letter could be put out. These letters have to be sent by 7 th October. The group agreed to encourage people to write. The original proposal that Anthony did could be sent off again but this time with a lot more signatures, CR passed around copies to each member to bring back into school when full with signatures.

The group also discussed the Funday, organised what stalls and activities there are going to be, what outside agencies attending, prizes etc are. Ange Baynham agreed to design a Funday flyer to be distributed locally. The Funday to be advertised via radio and the press. It was agreed that children would send invitations to local councillors who have supported the school to invite them to the Funday. A Bullock to sort. It was also agreed that senior members of staff would guide people around the school.

The council listened !!!! SCPS is not to close

In a letter that was sent out to parents today Cheshire County Council says that 'there is no proposal any longer that Sandbach community Primary School would be closed.'

It says the new proposal will be to keep SCPS open with a capacity for 105 children and the children's centre at the site. In this letter it is also being considered that Offley Primary School is to have the 14-19 year old centre there.

The Children's Service's Executive is meeting on the 13th of October at 1 pm at County Hall, Chester to discuss this proposal.

Anybody can ask a question , the answer to which will be stated at this meeting. All questions must be notified by 5pm on Tuesday the 13th of October . They should be addressed to

Garden two

On Saturday 29th August, parents, friends and members of the community went along to Sandbach Community Primary School to work together to improve the garden along Crewe Road. Shrubs were pruned, borders dug over and lawns mowed(thanks to Martin!)Also, thanks to the "man with a van" who took away the debris for us. It's looking so much better,Thank you to all who came to help.

As you can clearly see there has been a marked improvement on the state of the grass, and the Garden in general.

S.O.S.A.G - Save Our School From Closure Action Group and other members of the community meet on Friday 15th August in the Community Centre in Union Street, Sandbach.The meeting was well attended. Also the meeting was attended by local councillors: Gary Poole, Cllr Elsie Alcock, Dr Peter Hirst, Pauline Minshull-Chair Sandbach Town Council and Consort. Stuart Naylor - School Governor, and Anthony Baynham - Vice Chair Youth Council. Gary Poole spoke passionately about the positive way that the campaign has been running since the news broke and now said it was time to "Move forward in a robust manner". Cllr Alcock spoke to the group outlining the response that the Town Council had sent to TLC, and that they "objected in the strongest possible terms to the proposal to close Sandbach Community Primary School. Dr Peter Hirst, who has recently shown his support for the school, spoke of how the closure would impact on the environment, and that he thinks that the data presented on behalf of Cheshire County Council is floored and about how that the community is the "Bedrock Of Society". Stuart Naylor spoke to the group outlining the school's proposal that was sent to Cheshire County Council, listing their feelings and offering alternative solutions. He also spoke of that he had received word from Joan Feenan - Director of Children's Services, that our school has the "right criteria for establishing a Children's Centre at SCPS. Fantastic news, we all agreed. Anthony Baynham spoke of that the school's blog has been visited internationally. Pushed the petition at Number 10 Downing Street and said that we needed to let the whole community know what the group is doing. He also told the group that he has presented an alternative proposal for the 14-19 resource centre to Cheshire County Council. Several members of the group told of how they had received a response from their letter. Some have received letters back and some haven't. Gary Poole encouraged people to contact Cheshire County Council and ask why this was not the case. We spoke of many ways that we could continue with our campaign: contacting old pupils via Friends Reunited, Time Capsule. The group also agreed that an easily identifiable poster needs to be made. Craig Roughley agreed to speak with his employer regarding printing of theses posters,. The company has since agreed to print them on the schools behalf. It was agreed that volunteers were needed to help to improve the appearance of the school to the public. Local community Group TATRA agreed to help in the clean up.
In conclusion the meeting was very successful with lots of good, positive points being made and the need to arrange an event to show the school is a positive way was very popular. Thank you to all who came.

Why I have created this

I've created this blog to help us all co-ordinate our efforts, It should also help make OUR voice heard and will allow the publication of Documents for example Petitions , surveys or OUR aims.

What do we want?

We want Cheshire County Council to look at the Transforming Learning in Communities again , as we do not think everything was taken into account. Also Sandbach CP is a very unique School serving a Community with unique needs.
